Pioneer's PRO DVD Recorder and PRO DVD Player Team up to score a Home Run for the National Baseball Hall of Fame. PRV-9000 and DVD-V7400 Bring Baseball History Alive For Guests of Museum Exhibits and Traveling "Baseball as America" Presentation.
Long Beach, CA 8/13/2002
Pioneer Electronics (USA) Inc. is giving visitors to both the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York and the traveling "Baseball as America" exhibit something to cheer about. Using Pioneer's PRV-9000 pro DVD recorder and DVD-V7400 pro DVD player, the Hall of Fame can instantaneously create DVD-Video discs to display unique baseball content for guests to enjoy at the museum and traveling exhibits.
The National Baseball Hall of Fame already uses its own in-house video production facility to develop and produce a variety of video content for exhibits. They were looking for a cost-effective and high quality system to replace VHS and Laserdisc. The Hall of Fame decided to convert to DVD because it was more cost-effective than maintaining their previous system.
"The VCR equipment needed constant maintenance, the VHS videos degraded quickly, and, while the LaserDisc was more durable, the cost of creating a Laserdisc for each exhibit was too expensive," said Bruce Brodersen, multimedia director at the National Baseball Hall of Fame. "Clearly after trying both VHS and LaserDisc, we were looking to find a format that was both durable and cost-effective to update. Pioneer's DVD products fit the bill perfectly."
Using Pioneer's recording and playback devices provided a cost-effective and fully integrated solution for the National Baseball Hall of Fame. Now, the Hall of Fame can easily, quickly and cost-effectively create high quality DVD-Video discs using Pioneer's stand-alone Pro DVD Recorder. The PRV-9000 records on DVD-R (write-once) and DVD-RW (re-writable) discs with the press of a single button in real time.
Offering DV (IEEE-1394), S-Video and Composite video inputs, the PRV-9000 also allows the Hall of Fame to choose from various recording sources. By connecting the PRV-9000 pro DVD recorder to a non-linear editing suite with a customized router, the Hall of Fame records to DVD from VHS, Laserdisc, Betacam, and other sources. This affords the Hall of Fame added flexibility by allowing them to use their existing content recorded previously on VHS and Laserdisc video and migrate it directly to DVD.
The National Baseball Hall of Fame features permanent exhibits portraying a variety of baseball themes, historical personalities and events. Pioneer's DVD-V7400 pro DVD players provide consistent and high quality interactive video in each of the exhibits including Babe Ruth, Abbott and Costello "Who's On First," Baseball in the Movies and World Series exhibits. The durability of the DVD players assures that the game lives on for visitors all day, every day.
"Pioneer's Business Solutions Division develops DVD products that enhance environments like the National Baseball Hall of Fame," said Linda Toleno, vice president of industrial video sales and marketing for the Business Solutions Division of Pioneer Electronics (USA) Inc. "Using both the PRV-9000 and the DVD-V7400 enables them to quickly and easily create DVD content and playback the content using a far superior format than VHS or Laserdisc. Guests won't be disappointed with these video presentations."
Not only reliable and durable, the DVD-V7400 has versatile features that make the players easy to use in entertainment and museum environments. For example, the DVD-V7400 can be programmed to automatically power itself on and off when the exhibits open and close each day. In addition, the players feature an RS-232 port allowing for direct connection to touch screen monitors. Using this feature, the Hall of Fame can create DVDs with menu options for guests to select specific video segments based on individual preferences.
The National Baseball Hall of Fame's new traveling exhibit "Baseball as America" is also equipped with Pioneer's DVD-V7400 pro DVD players. The exhibit celebrates and presents America's romance with baseball and connects the history of the sport and the nation. Six of Pioneer's DVD-V7400 pro DVD players connected to plasma screen monitors will travel as part of this special exhibit to ten cities including New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Cincinnati, St. Petersburg, Washington D.C., St. Louis and Houston during the next four years.
"Building a completely mobile and reliable exhibit was the most important consideration for the 'Baseball as America' presentation," said Brodersen. "Weighing only 10.5 pounds each, Pioneer's lightweight pro DVD players provide the mobility and accessibility we needed to transport this exhibit across the country."
The National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum is a not-for-profit educational institution dedicated to fostering an appreciation of the historical development of the game and its impact on our culture by collecting, preserving, exhibiting and interpreting its collections for a global audience, as well as honoring those who have made outstanding contributions to our National Pastime.
